Winter Formal Dresses

Dressing for a Party

Winter formal, or winter balls, are the equivalent to prom but are more toward the end of the first semester. From high schools to colleges, many women have searched for winter formal dresses to create elegant looks and lots of designers have particular dresses just for this occasion. As the name states, these events are more formal and long gowns are usually the preferred attire but some cocktail dresses do fit. As for colors, those that fit the season are more dominant including white and darker shades like blue and violet. Brighter colors like red, orange, and yellow do not work as well for this special occasion.

Sleeved Gown

This formal JS Boutique gown is affordable and an excellent choice for formal events. The dress is made from stretch satin and is form fitting. The square neckline and capped sleeves are what really create that particular difference. The fishtail hem absolutely stands out as well and the aubergine color definitely works for the season. Find this dress at Nordstrom for around $130 dollars.

Lavender Gown

This beautiful DEB gown combines ruching, an embroidered bodice, and a ball gown skirt for a magnificent finish. Looking formal should not be hard with this dress and it cost about $140 bucks. Not a bad deal for this dress. The lavender shade also works very well for winter formals.

One Shoulder Dress

White is a great color for dresses and formal galas and this one shoulder design by Jessica McClintock certainly has a romantic feel. One shoulder dresses are often overlooked and never over used so the chance of someone else wearing a similar dress is much lower. The dress includes a draped neck cuff and shoulder tie and a long flowing sheath silhouette. Check out the dress through the designer’s site which marks it at $140.
