Prom Dresses – Gowns Vs Cocktail
For prom goers every year, one of the major issues is finding a beautiful prom dress and that usually means deciding between long gowns or cocktail length dresses. Each type of dress has it’s advantageous over the other and it really comes to preference in style and personal feel. Some ladies want to dress up in an elegant looking dress while others want to dress for a party and a shorter length party dress is a better option.

The Short Prom Dress
Shorter prom dresses have a cocktail length hem that falls right above the knees. A-line silhouettes are generally more favorable and these dresses allow for a free range of movement without having to worry about the bottom of the dress. The cocktail prom dresses have a nice party flair and normally are embellished with unique designs that make the dresses more eye-catching.

Jessica McClintock Prom Dress
This is the perfect example of a short, party-style prom dress that uses lots of the element. Notice the polka dots first and then the A-line silhouette. Next the dress uses the square neckline combined with the flared out skirt with black petticoat. The finishing touch of the scalloped lace ribbon and sash at the waist really completes the dress and makes it very flashy.

Snow Prom Dress
Brittany Snow wore this lovely dress to the premiere of her movie "Prom Night" where she plays a prom attending teen. The dress has a sweetheart neckline and ruching detail at the bodice with cute jeweled detailing right in the center. The skirt also features a small bubble hem that adds flair to the entire look and creates a unique appeal.

The Prom Gown
Prom gowns, with straps or strapless, are extremely elegant choices when it comes to attire for prom. Like the shorter length dresses, full length gowns have a variety of styles and options to create unique looks that can match any prom theme. Longer gowns actually create a more romantic and elegant look than shorter ones but the key is to find one that is comfortable to dance in. There is no need to worry though because prom has become such a cash cow that there are dresses galore.
